Regulation 2001
The Occupational Health and Safety Act of 2000 states that:
An employer must ensure that any risk of injury from electricity at a place of work is to be eliminated or, if the elimination is not reasonably practicable the risk is controlled by way of regular testing, maintenance and inspection to ensure they remain safe for use.
An employer must ensure that a record is made and kept of all inspections and tests made and maintenance carried out on electrical articles. In particular the following information is required:
A. The name of the person who made the inspection or carried out the test or Maintenance.
B. The date on which or dates over which the inspection was made or the test maintenance was carried out.
C. The result or outcome of the inspection and test or maintenance.
D. The date by which the next inspection and test must be carried out.
Electrical Equipment Testing
1. Applicable Australian Standard:
- AS / NZS 3760:2003 In service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment
- AS / NZS 3012: Construction and demolition sites
- AS 3350 2.25 Microwave Radiation
- AS 3017 Electrical installations - testing guidelines
2. Process
Be Smart carry out the inspection, testing and tagging on all portable electrical equipment, appliances and safety switches as per the standards.
Repairs shall be conducted by a electrician.
Reports shall be provided and records shall be kept.
Emergency and Exit Lighting
1. Applicable Australian Standard:
- AS / NZS 2293.2:1995 Emergency evacuation lighting for buildings
Part 2: Inspection and maintenance
2. Process
Be Smart carry out inspection and testing of all battery-powered exit and emergency luminaries as per the standard both 6 monthly and 12 monthly.
Repairs shall be conducted by either new tubes, batteries or new units.
Reports shall be provided and records shall be kept.
